Episode 133: Chang'e, Mooncakes & Lots of Family Time // Celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, is the second-most important holiday after Chinese New Year, dating back 3,000 years when China’s emperor worshipped the moon for bountiful harvests. On this day, it is believed that the moon is at its brightest and fullest size.

As we get older, we have grown a genuine interest in these traditions that we used to not think twice about, or even find to be a nuisance. And as we think about the nature of these traditions and celebrations, we start to dig deeper into the root of why we celebrate them and what the deeper meaning or purpose is, especially as we begin to build our own families and think about how we want to celebrate with our children.

This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 21st. Tune in to how we individually celebrated this festival with our family, and how we plan to celebrate this holiday going forward. How do you plan to celebrate this year?
